Dr. Marilyn Young has a passion for teaching and believes understanding management will have an impact on career success. Currently, she enjoys teaching management courses using real-world examples. She is Faculty Research Fellow for the Hibbs Institute for Business & Economic Research for her work in labor market research and economic development. Her latest research has been in the areas of entrepreneurial success factors for Veterans, women, Hispanics, Millennials, and others. She continues conducting research in economic development, hidden unemployment, and analyzing factors which make communities strong.
Dr. Young is a consultant/trainer/researcher for both profit and non-profit organizations. She is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship. Business research and consulting are of utmost interest as she has published in the journals below: She recently completed a report for the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce Veterans Committee entitled Tyler, Texas MSA: A Military and Veteran-Friendly Community. She has presented her research at conferences, such as Academy of Management, Decision Sciences Institute, Academy of Business Research, Association of Small Business & Entrepreneurship, Federation of Academic Disciplines, and Southern Management Association.
She organized and was president of U. T. Tyler Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter. During her career at UT Tyler, she has served as Chair, Department of Management and Marketing, and Director, Small Business Institute, MBA Program, and Internship Programs. She has served on the Board of Directors of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra and is a member of Leadership Tyler Alumni.
After living in Spain, she continues to study Spanish and has a passion for swimming.
