Dr. Matt Leveno grew up in Richardson, Texas and pursued his undergraduate education
at Tthe University of Texas at Austin. He completed medical school at the University
of Texas Southwestern followed by a year of studying Spanish while working in clinics
and hospitals in Mexico and Guatemala. Subsequently, Dr. Leveno completed a residency
in Emergency Medicine at Boston University and residency in Internal Medicine at UT
Southwestern. Dr. Leveno obtained additional training through a research fellowship
in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care at UT Southwestern with a focus on the role
of autophagy and innate immunity under the mentorship of Dr. Beth Levine.
Prior to joining the UT Tyler School of Medicine in late 2023, Dr. Leveno served as
the Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and the Critical Care Program Chief
at Parkland Hospital. He is passionate about the optimal incorporation of clinical
education into the delivery exceptional patient care. Of particular interest, Dr.
Leveno believes that Point of Care Ultrasound is a fundamental requirement and that
every trainee should have access to a thoughtful and effective curriculum delivered
throughout their training. His research interests are largely pragmatic and include
the areas of acute kidney injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome, alcohol withdrawal,
end stage liver disease, and medical device development.
