Family Medicine Athens Residency FAQ

Are you ACGME accredited?
Yes, we are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as a three-year categorical family medicine training program.

How do I submit my application?
We accept applications through ERAS.

What is the application deadline?
Our deadline for applications is December 1st.

Do you accept international medical graduate applications?
We are currently only accepting applications from US/Canadian-accredited allopathic and osteopathic medical schools. International applicants may be considered for review via our applications committee.

Will you be offering virtual interviews?
We offer virtual interviews.

Can I select my interview date?
We do offer flexible scheduling through ERAS where an applicant can select any available dates/slots we have remaining or can request a spot for a specific date via waitlist.

What if I cannot make my interview date or need to change?
Please notify our office either by ERAS, phone or email as soon as possible if a scheduling change is needed. Dates can also be changed through the ERAS scheduling system.

Will the program allow moonlighting?
We do allow moonlighting opportunities for our PGY2 & PGY3 residents who have passed thier ITEs, have a full state license and are in good standing with the program.

How many residents does your program accept each year?
We accept 6 positions per year for a full complement of 18 residents.

Where will my rotations be located?

  • UT Health Athens (primary site)
  • UT Tyler Health Science Center
  • UT Health Tyler
  • Various community clinics in Athens
  • East Texas Community (continuity) Clinic

Do you offer an employment benefits package?
Yes, in conjunction with UT System benefits.

Do you accept COMLEX?
Yes.
