Neurology

The division of neurology exists with the intent of attracting excellent talent with expertise in various neurological disorders to serve the needs of East Texas and to provide education and training to medical students and neurology residents. Our faculty have trained in recognized institutions across the country and bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Our region demonstrates significant health disparities in neurological disorders. General medical conditions such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension and addiction to smoking have led to secondary neurological conditions. The department serves to increase awareness about neurological disorders and provide multi-disciplinary comprehensive care.

Our faculty provide evaluation and treatment for the following disorders:

  • General Neurology
  • Neuromuscular Disorders (ALS, myopathy, myasthenia gravis)
  • Autonomic Disorders
  • Headache
  • Cognitive and Behavior Disorders (e.g. various forms of dimentia)
  • Epileptiform Disorders (focal, complex and generalized tonic-clonic seizures and status epilepticus)
  • Autoimmune disorders (encephalitis, paraneoplastic disorders)
  • Movement Disorders
  • Functional Neurological Disorders
  • Neurovascular disorders (TIA, stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, aneurysms and vasculitis)
