Hematology and Oncology Fellowship

Welcome!

Thank you for the interest in the Hematology and Oncology fellowship at the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine in Tyler Texas. On behalf of all the faculty in the Department of Hematology and Oncology I welcome you to our program.

The hematology oncology fellowship welcomed its first cohort in July 2024 and our mission is to train physicians to have well-rounded clinical experience, access to cutting edge clinical research and eventually become outstanding physicians and community leaders. Our fellows will rotate through UT health Tyler, UT health North Campus at Tyler and UT Health Athens as well as rotations at UT Southwestern. Fellows will have opportunities to train with emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care with close interactions with surgical oncology, radiation oncology, hematopathology, radiology and other internal medicine specialties. Our fellows will also have an opportunity to train and educate residents and medical students in the field of hematology oncology.

Our program is part of a large academic institution which is new and growing. We started a new medical school with commencement of its first class in July 2023. In addition, we have several residency programs [ internal medicine, surgery, psychiatry, preventive medicine and family medicine] and fellowships [cardiovascular medicine, gastroenterology, hospice and palliative care, pulmonary critical care] to name a few and with plans to add more.

We hope our trainees will work towards advancing the field of hematology and oncology, provide exceptional care and make a strong impact in the lives of patient’s battling with cancer and hematologic disorders.

Thank you for the interest in our program.

Sincerely,

Kavitha Donthireddy, MD
Program Director
