Anesthesiology Residency Overview
Welcome to The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine Anesthesiology Residency program and thank you for taking the time to learn more about our program. The school continues to grow its graduate medical education programs, with a strong commitment to training excellent clinicians for East Texas and beyond. As part of this evolution, we will be welcoming our inaugural anesthesiology residency class in July 2024, offering six (6) categorical residency positions per year.
We are committed to the educational development of outstanding, well-rounded clinicians and health care leaders as well as the advancement of knowledge through scientific and clinical discovery. As a new program, we will be capitalizing on the extensive and previously untapped clinical opportunities of East Texas as well as the clinical and academic expertise of our faculty. We are excited to design a training program from scratch using the most up-to-date methods including case-based learning, flipped classrooms and simulation. We will focus on cutting-edge knowledge and techniques but also provide our residents with a deep understanding of scientific method and the foundational knowledge to objectively evaluate the medical literature for life-long learning.
As the Chair, I will apply my extensive academic experience to launch this exciting new program. Most of my career has been spent serving in senior leadership roles in academic medical centers including UTHealth Houston, Medical University of South Carolina, and most recently Maine Medical Center/Tufts School of Medicine. The opportunity to use my experience in academic anesthesiology and partner with UT Tyler’s experienced clinicians to create a unique, high-quality anesthesiology residency program in East Texas is truly exciting!
If you are seeking a program that offers a unique and rigorous clinical experience, educational and research excellence and a commitment to work-life balance, you are highly encouraged to contact us and learn more about what UT Tyler and the City of Tyler have to offer.
