Biotechnology Academic Scholarship
Biotechnology Academic Scholarship
The Master of Science in Biotechnology degree program at The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center (HSC) offers a limited academic scholarship for degree-seeking graduate students admitted into the Biotechnology program. The scholarship awards are variable in amount and are based on availability of funds, number of applicants, and the academic merit of the student. If awarded, scholarship funds will be applied to the student’s account at the beginning of the award semester. A new application is required before each semester.
In order to be initially considered for this scholarship, a student must:
- Be admitted to the HSC Biotechnology degree program (clear or provisional admission as defined in the General Academic Catalog).
- Be actively pursuing the degree (neither on academic leave of absence nor in absentia).
- Have met all program prerequisite requirements.
- Be maintaining a GPA of 3.0 (“B”) or better in the program.
- Enroll at least part-time for the term for which you are requesting an award (5 credit hours Fall/Spring).
To be awarded a continuing scholarship, a student must:
- Have satisfactorily completed 18 credit hours in the program.
- Have an approved degree plan on file.
- Have selected a major advisor and submitted a thesis proposal.
- Be maintaining a GPA of 3.0 (“B”) or better in the program.
- Enroll at least part-time for the term for which you are requesting an award (5 credit hours Fall/Spring).
The decision to award the scholarship will be determined by an institutional committee made up of members of the Graduate Faculty. The committee’s decision will be based on a composite evaluation of the student’s application, qualifications, academic performance, program progression and the availability of funds. If awarded, the student must maintain regular enrolled student status during each semester of the award and must not be on scholastic probation, leave of absence, or registered in absentia. Failure to meet these conditions may result in termination of the scholarship.
Awarded scholarships under this program can only be applied towards tuition and fees. The total award to the student under this scholarship program may be derived from one or more scholarship funds, thus the combined amount of all awards received by the student during the award semester will not exceed the total amount of tuition and fees incurred by the student during the award semester. Any unused funds will be returned to the program to be made available to future applicants.
The scholarship application will be available on the Student Financial Services page when applications are being accepted for the upcoming term.
