Frequently Asked Questions
Tobacco-Free Campus
What does it mean to be tobacco-free?
Tobacco usage is not permitted on the UT Tyler campus or UT Tyler-owned property. This includes all forms of tobacco including but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, water pipes (hookah), bidis, kreteks, electronic cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, snuff, chewing tobacco and all other tobacco products.
Adherence to the policy is the responsibility of all members of the University community. It is expected that all students, faculty, staff, university affiliates, contractors and visitors to campus will comply with the policy.
Is smoking allowed in vehicles?
Tobacco usage is not permitted on the UT Tyler campus. Therefore, smoking in a vehicle located on the UT Tyler campus is not permitted.
What is my responsibility if I see someone smoking or using a prohibited product on campus?
Like any policy, enforcement can be difficult to manage. Politely and respectfully notify those who are smoking and/or using a product not permitted on campus that the UT Tyler campus is tobacco-free. For additional assistance, please feel free to contact the Office of Human Resources, 903.566.7234.
I am a tobacco user, what assistance can I receive to quit my tobacco usage?
For staff, faculty and students who decide to quit using tobacco products, we want to make sure you are aware of tobacco cessation programs available to assist. Please note, it is important to tell your doctor when you are ready to quit. Your doctor can help you connect with the right resources. Remember, quitting "cold turkey" isn't your only choice.
