Compensation

The Compensation Area of the Office of Human Resources administers the compensation plans for The University of Texas at Tyler and The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center. We partner with university leaders to develop, maintain, and administer compensation programs designed to attract and retain the best individuals for our faculty, staff and clinical positions.

Compensation provides the following services:

  • Administering compensation plans, including the development of strategies that support the mission and vision of UT Tyler.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and responding to equity issues.
  • Performing market salary research and salary surveys.
  • Providing guidance on regulatory compliance relating to FLSA (Fair Labor and Standards Act).
  • Partnering with university departments to support the budgetary and financial strategies of UT Tyler.  
  • Ensuring accountability for compliance with the University of Texas System Board of Regents Rules and Regulations and UT Tyler Handbook of Procedures.
  • Developing and communicating compensation resources for managers and supervisors.

 

Compensation Review Process

Compensation Review Process - Academic Positions

There are two established periods to request position reclassifications, equity adjustments, and market reviews. 

Period 1 - Submission of requests from June 1 - June 15 as part of the annual budget process. Any requests that are approved in the department's budget will be effective September 1.


Period 2 - Submission of requests from November 1 - November 15 if funding is available in the department's current budget. Any approved requests will be effective March 1.

Compensation Review Process - Clinical Positions

Requests for reclassifications, equity adjustments, and market reviews must be coordinated and reviewed by UT Health East Texas leadership before submission to Human Resources.

Once reviewed, complete the HR Compensation Request Form with the job descripton attached.

Frequently Asked Questions

Equity adjustments ensures salarie are fairly paid between colleagues in similar roles, while market adjustments ensures that salaries are competitive within the industry or regional standards. 

Period 1: June 1 - 15. 
Period 2: November 1 – 15. 

Employees may be ineligible for merit increases depending on the effective date of the request. Please refer to the documentation of the merit cycle for more information.

Exceptions may be approved by UT Tyler’s President, CBO, and Human Resources Leadership for reorganizations, counteroffers, or retention of high-performing employees.
