Biography
Dr. Lirely assumed the responsibilities as the Department Chair of Accounting, Finance,
and Business Law at The University of Texas at Tyler in the summer of 2010. Prior
to his arrival he was a faculty member at Western Carolina University. He served WCU
for several years as Department Head of Accounting, Finance, and Economics and chaired
the Assurance of Learning committees for the College of Business.
Dr. Lirely has published in the Oil, Gas, and Energy Quarterly, Entrepreneurial Executive,
Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University Law Review, Seton Hall Law Review,
Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies, Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives,
New Accountant, and others. Dr. Lirely is a native of southern Illinois. He is a devoted
baseball fan and enjoys reading, golf, movies and cooking.
Teaching and Research Interests:
Dr. Lirely's primary teaching interests are in individual and entity taxation, as
well as principles of accounting. His research has focused on taxpayer rights, taxpayer
litigation, flow-through entities, and tax policy.
