Hui Liang James is an associate professor of finance. She has taught both undergraduate and grade courses, such as Principles of Finance, Managerial Finance, Financial Markets and Institutions, and Advanced Financial Management.
Professor James’s research interests are in corporate governance, such as effective executive compensation design, optimal board structure, political corruption, and the interaction of finance and politics. She studies how governance quality affects various firm policies, including CEO compensation, payout policies, trade credit, working capital management, tax avoidance, earnings management, labor and capital investment efficiency, and cash policies. Her work has been published in numerous articles in prestigious academic journals such as Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, and Journal of Business Research. Her work has also been published in many high-quality journals in the field, such as Financial Review, Accounting& Finance, Quarterly Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Economics, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, and Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance,
She received the Best-Paper Award at Financial Management Annual Meeting. She is also the recipient of Crystal Quill Research Reward from The University of Texas at Tyler and the Outstanding Faculty Research Award from the Soules College of Business.
