Numerical Simulation Laboratory

Facilities

The numerical simulation laboratory of the UT Tyler Department of Mechanical Engineering supports teaching and research utilizing finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and CAD/CAM.

Current facilities include 15 Dell PC 690 precision workstations with quad core Intel Xeon 1.86GHz processors, 4 GB SDRAM, and 250 GB hard drives.

All workstations have 24-inch monitors. Available software includes Ansys and Algor finite element packages; Fluent, a CFD package; and Solid Edge, Pro/E, and AutoCAD CAD programs. Matlab with Simulink, Mathcad, and Mathematica are available for problem solving and simulation.

The laboratory has its own networked HP4500 color printer. The workstations are also networked to other printers in the engineering computer laboratory.

The instructor's workstation is identical to the other 15 and is connected to a high resolution projector that allows students to observe the software in use.
