Scholarships

Texas Space Grant Consortium Scholarship and Fellowship

These scholarships are intended to recognize high-quality students and encourage their consideration of graduate studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, which will ultimately lead to careers in space related-fields. The scholarships stress:

  • Excellence in academics.
  • Participation in space education projects.
  • Participation in research projects.
  • Exhibited leadership qualities.

TSGC encourages participation by members of underrepresented groups.

Scholarships From the National Society of Professional Engineers

The National Society of Professional Engineers is currently accepting applications for several scholarships, available to engineering undergrads and graduate students. The scholarships include:

  • Professional Engineers in Industry (PEI) Scholarship applicants must be sponsored by a NSPE/PEI member. Students who are children, dependents or relatives of NSPE members are given preference in the scholarship selection process. Students must have completed a minimum of two semesters or three quarters of undergraduate engineering studies (or be enrolled in graduate study) in a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. $2,500 for one year.
  • Paul H. Robbins, P.E., Honorary Scholarship - Awarded annually to a current engineering undergraduate student entering the junior year in an ABET-accredited engineering program and attending a college/university that participates in the NSPE Professional Engineers in Higher Education Sustaining University Program. $10,000.
  • William R. Kimel, P.E., Engineering Scholarship - Awarded annually to an undergraduate student who is a resident of either Kansas or Missouri, enrolled as a junior in an ABET-accredited engineering program in a college or university in either Kansas or Missouri. Applicant must be: A permanent resident of Kansas or Missouri, an undergraduate in the junior year enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program at a college or university in either Kansas or Missouri. $2,500.
  • The Albert H. Miller, P.E., F.NSPE, Memorial Scholarship - Applicants must be undergraduates entering the junior year at the University of Arkansas with a declared major of either civil or environmental engineering. $2,500.
  • The Steinman Fellowship - Awarded to graduate from an ABET-accredited engineering program entering a graduate program in engineering: $10,000.
  • NSPE/PEC George B. Hightower, P.E. Fellowship - NSPE/PEC and the NSPE Educational Foundation have established the George B. Hightower, P.E., Memorial Fellowship Fund to annually honor an outstanding engineering graduate student. $3,000 for one year.
  • Professional Engineers in Government (PEG) John Gregoritis, PE Management Study Fellowship - Awarded to graduate students who are pursuing an MBA, a master's degree in engineering management, or a master's degree in public administration. It is available to any engineer intern or licensed professional engineer from any discipline. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens may apply if they are current NSPE members. $2,500 for one year.

The University of Texas at Tyler offers many scholarships designed to attract and retain outstanding degree seeking students. To be considered, students must be accepted for admission and submit an online scholarship application for the appropriate scholarship and semester. It is recommended that all scholarship applicants complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Awarding of academic scholarships is based primarily on predictors of academic success, such as high school class rank, standardized test scores and prior grades. Additional consideration will be given to leadership qualities, socioeconomic background and status as a first generation college student.
