Department of Social Sciences
The Criminal Justice Division in The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Social Sciences provides outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs to prepare students for rewarding careers in a growing field.
The UT Tyler Criminal Justice program is highly respected among local, state and federal criminal justice agencies. Degrees offered include the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and the Master of Science in Criminal Justice as well as a minor in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science.
Our graduates are successfully employed in many different areas, including law enforcement, corrections, case management, computer crime investigation, forensic investigation, criminal intelligence, homeland security, probation and social services.
With four full-time faculty, the UT Tyler program is large enough to offer a full range of courses, yet small enough to have an average class size of 20, allowing for individual attention.
With a BS in Criminal Justice from UT Tyler, you will be well-grounded in the historical, philosophical, political, ethical and legal foundations of the three major criminal justice system components – police, courts and corrections. You will be skillful at:
- Operationalizing contemporary crime theory in given behavioral scenarios.
- Correctly interpreting research data involving the three major components of the criminal justice system.
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
The UT Tyler Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree program is designed to meet the needs of several types of students, including existing and prospective criminal justice professionals seeking to advance their knowledge and credentials. The program also provides excellent preparation for doctoral-level work.
