Graduate Program
The UT Tyler master of science in criminal justice degree program offers specialized studies for criminal justice career advancement, teaching on the junior-college level or studies on the doctoral level.
The program consists of 36 credit hours, with students choosing the thesis option or the non-thesis option that includes comprehensive exams. The thesis option is recommended for students seeking research experience or preparing for doctoral studies.
Program Mission Statement: Studies for the Master's degree in Criminal Justice extend across the broad spectrum of the American Criminal Justice System (Police, Courts, and Corrections) in accordance with certification standards of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. This program emphasis is on critical review of the current American Criminal Justice System with the potential for improvement. Graduates of this program will be leaders in the field due to their abilities to critically assess current policies and practices and to research and develop future, successful, policies and procedures. Graduates will be cognizant of the ethical challenges to the criminal justice field and of the delicate but political balance between crime control and due process protection.
