The University of Texas at Tyler will hold a grand opening ceremony for the UT Tyler
Veterans Resource Center, Amanda Bayatpoor, center coordinator, announced.
The event will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21 in the University Center, room 2140. Retired
Army Maj. Gen. John Furlow will serve as keynote speaker.
A reception will follow the ceremony. Light refreshments will be served.
Maj. Gen. Furlow retired in March 2009 after serving more than 31 years of distinguished
service with all three components of the U.S. Army. He was a major contributor for
the development/evolution of Homeland Security/Defense mission for the state and nation.
Furlow continues to serve veterans through his active participation in issues and
affairs. He is a member of the City of Tyler’s Veterans’ Roundtable, a group established
in May 2011 that works as a support network for veterans and focuses on education,
housing and medical care.
