Panhellenic Recruitment
The NPC sororities at UT Tyler accept new members through a more structured "Primary" recruitment in the fall semester. During this time, potential new members attend various recruitment activities where they have an opportunity to learn about the chapter, ask questions, and meet current members. This is also a process of mutual selection, where both the potential new member and the sorority find the best fit for the individual.
Students may also join at a later time through Continuous Open Bidding (sororities) though all those thinking about sorority membership are encouraged to go through the earlier structured process so they have a chance to look at all available organizations and make the best and most informed decision.
Men's Council Fraternity Recruitment
Our Men's Council fraternities accept new members on a rolling basis or "informal process". In certain situations, the Men's Council will host informational sessions and events to give those candidates interested in fraternity life a chance to get to know our chapters and their members. While it is encouraged that interested men meet all the chapters, this is not required.
For more specific information on recruitment visit Panhellenic Recruitment and Men's Recruitment .
NPHC Intake
NPHC organizations use a process called Membership Intake to take new members into their chapters. The Membership Intake Process (or MIP for short) is all about educating prospective members on the history of both the organization and chapter, as well as working on collaborative projects and service events related to the mission and purpose of the organization.
This process is organized by each chapter independently, there is not a structured intake process that all chapters participate in together. It is up to the organization to determine when they would like to have new members. We encourage all of our organizations to do intake each semester.
Even though each organization hosts membership intake independently, the structure of each group’s process is similar. MIP begins with a formal informational session where prospective members can learn about the organization, policies and expectations related to the intake process, and what they need to do in order to apply. From here, applications are usually submitted and then selected candidates will participate in educational meetings over the course of a few weeks. Membership intake is completed with a formal ceremony called initiation when the prospective members are officially made members of the fraternity or sorority and are presented to the community in a New Member Presentation.
View more information about our NPHC organizations.
MGC Recruitment/Intake
Our groups under the MGC banner typically host events at the beginning of each semester. These events are geared toward giving interested students the opportunity to learn about the organization and get to know their members. These events are typically announced on their social media and at tabling events. Like NPHC organizations, there is typically an application process, and an education period, if selected. Once the education period is over, the new members are made official members of the organization and are presented to the community in a New Member Presentation.
