Biography
Elise Switzer, MD, is a pediatric hospitalist and simulation educator. She completed
her medical degree at Florida State University where she was inducted into the Gold
Humanism Honor Society and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She completed her pediatric
residency at Miami Children's Hospital, served on the Resident Fellow Forum, and was
awarded the Pediatric Preventive Medicine Award. She is board-certified in pediatrics
as well as pediatric hospital medicine.
Dr. Switzer has worked as a pediatric hospitalist in a rural community hospital in
Maryland and a large academic tertiary center in Virginia before taking a position
with UT Tyler SOM when her family relocated to Shreveport LA for the military. She
became certified as a healthcare simulation educator and has a particular interest
in team communication to improve patient safety. She has presented nationally and
published an anti-racism simulation curriculum. Her paper on resource utilization
was recognized as one of the most impactful and meaningful for improving the care
for hospitalized pediatric patients at the national PHM conference.
