Partial and Complete Withdrawals

From the first day of classes through the Last Day to Withdraw, students may submit:

  • A partial withdrawal (dropping one or more courses, but not all of their courses from a session); or
  • A complete withdrawal (all courses in a session)
Partial Withdrawals

If a student formally drops one or more courses (partially withdraws) through Enrollment Services, the university will refund applicable tuition and fees collected for courses from which a student drops within the first 12 days of a fall, spring or summer session of 10 weeks or longer and within the first four days of a session 9 weeks or less, provided the student remains enrolled at the institution for that session.

Refunds for courses dropped by a student who later in the session completely withdraws from the institution will be calculated according to the following withdrawal schedule:

Summer 2025

Regular 7 Week 1 Session* & 7 Week Nursing Session

  • From May 5 through May 7, 2025: 80%

  • From May 8 though May 10, 2025: 50%

  • After May 10, 2025: No refund

14 Week Nursing Session

  • Prior to May 5, 2025: 100%

  • From May 10 through May 15, 2025: 70%
  • From May 16 through May 21, 2025: 50%
  • From May 22 through May 28, 2025: 25%

Short Summer Session

*Accelerated Business Administration M.B.A. 7 week Program

Please note carefully when your withdrawal dates occur - the Accelerated Business Administration M.B.A. (7 Week Program) follows a different academic calendar than the traditional MBA program.  Withdrawal and refund information can be located by viewing the Tuition tab on the page for each student's program on the https://online.uttyler.edu/ website. 

For refunds, the effective date of withdrawal will be the date when the withdrawal is officially completed and recorded by the registrar's Office. If the university cancels a scheduled course of instruction, all fees will be refunded. No refunds will be made unless applied for in the same school year as withdrawal. Immediate refund will not be made to students who withdraw during the refund period. Normally, a refund will be made within 30 days from the last day of scheduled refunds.  Depending on the original method of payment, this refund may process directly to the credit/debit card used for online payment or to the student's chosen refund preference (direct deposit to existing bank account or BankMobile Vibe account. 

All policies regarding the payment or refunding of tuition, fees and charges comply with applicable statutes and are approved by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System. If a person desires clarification of any matter relating to payment or refund of such charges, or believes special circumstances warrant exceptions to the published policy, the Office of Business Affairs at UT Tyler should be contacted.

Withdrawal - Financial Aid Recipients.  If you withdraw or drop out from the University of Texas at Tyler during any semester for which you have been paid financial aid funds, any refund of tuition and fees and other university charges will be assessed for return to programs from which you (or parents if they received a Parent Loan) were originally paid.  An additional "repayment" calculation will determine if you must repay a portion of your financial aid.

Partial Withdraw From the University

1.  An undergraduate resident student is enrolled in six hours for the Regular Session during Spring 2025 and is charged $2,218 in tuition and fees calculated as follows:

Student Service Fee $39 - three hours x $13 per SCH
Mandatory Fee $0
Instructional Support Fee $66 - three hours x $22 per SCH

Total Tuition and Fees Refundable $807*
Refund percentage x 100% - 100% Prior to Tuesday, January 28, 2025. 
Total Refund $807

B. The same student above enrolled in six hours drops the three hours on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 instead of the date in the example above. The student's refund is calculated as follows:

Resident Tuition $150 - three hours x $50 per SCH
Designated Tuition $552 - three hours x $184 per SCH
Student Service Fee $39 - three hours x $13 per SCH
Mandatory Fee $0
Instructional Support Fee $66 - three hours x $22 per SCH

Complete Withdrawal From The University

1.  A resident undergraduate student is enrolled in six hours for the Regular Session during Spring 2025 and is charged $2,218 in tuition and fees.  The student completely withdraws from the university on Friday, January 10, 2025  The students refund is calculated as follows:

Refund percentage x 100% - 100% Prior to Monday, January 13, 2025
Total Refund $2,218

2.  A resident undergraduate student is enrolled in six hours for the Regular Session during Spring 2025 and is charged $2,218 in tuition and fees. The student completely withdraws from the university on Thursday, February 6, 2025. The student's refund is calculated as follows:

Refund percentage x 0% after Wednesday, February, 5, 2025
Total Refund $0

*Your tuition and fee amount that is refundable may include fees that were assessed based on the courses that are being dropped.

**Your tuition and fee balance may include a parking permit, add fee, late fee, installment fee or emergency loan fee. These fees are not included in the refund calculation.
