UT Tyler Writing Center

Welcome to the UT Tyler Writing Center

FALL 2024

OPEN SEPT 9th through DEC 9th

MONDAY-THURSDAY 9 am-5 pm FRIDAYS 9 am-3 pm

Our mission at The UT Tyler Writing Center is to serve the UT Tyler community and to provide a safe and welcoming space for writers to work on their writing and improve their writing practices. We serve the university community by working with faculty and students to offer writing instruction and research.

We serve the university in three distinct areas

The Lab: The Writing Center draws on the expertise of writing studies faculty to develop successful research-based practices for reading and writing in an academic context. We support undergraduate research through extensive training as well as contribute to conversations surrounding the introduction of GenAI technology into the writing process.

The Community: The Writing Center offers a safe and welcoming space for learning and growth. We not only offer one-on-one consultations; we also offer workshops, events, and resources for writers to develop their craft. We also partner with university organizations and services to support writers in all disciplines.

The Session: Our graduate and undergraduate consultants participate in rigorous training over the course of a full semester. They study theories and practices related to Writing Center work and writing studies more generally. The consultants develop their own writing practices, feedback practices, and professionalization via our training process so that they can better serve their clients.

Our Values:

Accessibility: We work to build accessible materials and work with individual clients to address their needs and concerns.

Inclusivity: Writers come from a variety of backgrounds, life experiences, and demographics. We believe that all writers have something valuable to say.

Process: We follow best practices, established by the field of writing studies, to help writers develop their own writing processes. We believe that writing is a process and define writing as both a physical product and an intellectual process.

If you have a writing project underway, we recommend you make an appointment with one of our qualified consultants. We can assist with a variety of concerns at almost any level.
