Generative AI for Faculty

The resources here focus on writing applications using Generative AI.

The UT Tyler Writing Center is committed to supporting faculty in navigating new GenAI technologies. By partnering with the Writing Center, faculty can access resources, workshops, and consultations designed to help integrate AI tools effectively into their writing instruction. The following guidelines can help faculty engage with the Writing Center and AI tools effectively:

  • Familiarize yourself with the tools: Know what these tools can and cannot do will help you guide students more effectively. The Office of Digital Learning regularly hosts workshops to develop proficiency in various tools. Select one tool to practice with at a time.
  • Develop clear policies: The UTT Writing Center honors all faculty policies on GenAI use. Ensure your students know how to find your policy and discuss the ethical implications of GenAI use. You can find syllabus policy guidelines at the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
  • Maintain Academic Integrity: Develop clear policies regarding the use of AI in your classroom. Discuss with students the ethical implications of using AI, including issues related to plagiarism and data privacy.
  • Promote Critical Thinking: Encourage students to critically engage with AI-generated content. This includes questioning the accuracy and bias of AI outputs and examining GenAI text to better understand the kinds of texts it can produce.
  • Collaborate with the Writing Center: Work closely with the Writing Center to provide comprehensive support for students. The Writing Center can offer workshops on AI literacy, provide one-on-one consultations, and develop resources to help students use AI tools effectively.
  • Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest developments in AI and writing. Participate in professional development opportunities, attend webinars, and read relevant literature. Staying informed will help you integrate AI tools into your teaching practice more effectively and ethically.

By promoting AI literacy among faculty, we aim to create a supportive and informed environment where both educators and students can benefit from the responsible use of AI tools in the writing process.
