Radiation Safety
The University of Texas at Tyler Radiation Safety Policies
The University of Texas at Tyler offers a plethora of opportunities for working in laboratories with real-work consequences. The university offers classes and hands-on instruction in using radioactive material (RAM) as well as X-ray technologies. Non-ionizing radiation in the form of lasers can be found in a multitude of devices and instruments at all UT Tyler campuses. These courses require particularly stringent safety measures to ensure the users and public are not inadvertantly exposed to radiation.
The following are the Texas State laws and regulation as well as UT Tyler policy, along with contact information for training on this material and equipment. No radiation producing equipment or material are to be handled without consent and training from the lab supervisors, primary investigators or the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. For more information on training or radiation machines or instruments, please contact safety@uttyler.edu.
