Erik Gustafson (PhD, North Dakota State University) is an Assistant Professor in the
Department of Communication at the University of Texas at Tyler. Prior to joining
UT-Tyler, Dr. Gustafson developed and served as the inaugural Director of the Interpersonal
Communication for Business Professional Course at the University of South Dakota. His teaching
interests and experience span across a wide range of theoretical and practical courses
in the field. Likewise, Dr. Gustafson’s scholarly interests and publications move
in multiple directions and apply diverse scholarly perspectives. His primary scholarly
pursuits explore how rapidly evolving media environments are affecting our experience
of what it means to be human. Among several projects underway, his work in print or
in progress appears in Explorations in Media Ecology, New Explorations: Studies in Culture & Communication,
and the Journal of First Year Experience & Students in Transition. He also regularly presents his scholarly work at regional, national, and international
organizations in the areas of media, culture, and communication.
