Transfer Advising

At UT Tyler, we are committed to providing a seamless transition for our transfer students. Following are links to helpful information for the transfer process.

Finding Your Advisor

  • Prospective transfer students can find the list of majors and the advisor for those respective majors on our Academic Advisors page.
  • Transfer students who have already been accepted to UT Tyler have been assigned an academic advisor. Transfer Students can view their advisor through the Academic Progress link within myUTTyler.

Scheduling Advising Appointments

Transfer students are required to meet with their academic advisor before enrolling in their first semester at UT Tyler. Transfer students are also encouraged to meet with an academic advisor every semester to ensure successful completion of degree requirements. Transfer students intending to major within the Soules College of Business should email soulesadvising@uttyler.edu from your Patriot email address to request an appointment, please be sure to include if you would prefer to meet face-to-face or over Zoom. All other colleges within UT Tyler schedule advising appointments through Navigate.

Patriot Pathways

To aid in the seamless transition to UT Tyler the university is in the process of establishing Patriot Pathways with many of the community/junior colleges in Texas. These Pathways will include course equivalency information for specific degree requirements for many of the degrees offered by UT Tyler. Select the appropriate community/junior college then select the interested major to find information on all lower-division degree requirements and the community/junior college equivalent.

Texas Common Course Numbering System

The Texas Common Course Number System (TCCNS) is designed to aid students in the transfer of freshman and sophomore academic credit courses from colleges and universities throughout Texas. The University of Texas at Tyler has joined this consortium approved by the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The system ensures that if the student takes courses that the receiving institution designates as common, then the courses will be accepted in transfer at other Texas public colleges and universities.
