Bachelor of Science in Nursing -- Traditional BSN Track
The School of Nursing offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Upon successful completion of the BSN curriculum at the Tyler, Longview, or Palestine campus, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
The University of Texas at Tyler School of Nursing prepares graduates to meet health care needs as generalists.
The BSN program requires two years of prerequisite course completion and then four semesters of nursing courses. The BSN curriculum is offered year-round, and completion of the program can occur in 16 months.
Core Curriculum
Students must be Texas Core-complete BEFORE beginning the Traditional BSN Track. A maximum of five (5) outstanding prerequisite courses can be in progress during the time of application. Acceptance into the Traditional BSN Track is conditional upon successful completion of the core courses in progress.

- Lifespan, Growth, and Development (PSYC 2320)
- Introductory Psychology (PSYC 1301)
- Nutrition (ALHS 2315)
- Statistics (MATH 1342)
- Chemistry Lecture & Lab (CHEM 1305/CHEM 1105)
- Microbiology Lecture & Lab (BIOL 2320/BIOL 2120)
- Anatomy & Physiology I Lecture & Lab (BIOL 2301/BIOL 2101)
- Anatomy & Physiology II Lecture & Lab (BIOL 2302/BIOL 2102)
- Pathophysiology (NURS 3303) – must be from an approve four-year university, UT Tyler course recommended.
Admission Requirements
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA in all core courses and nursing prerequisite courses
- Completed TEAS Test (minimum score of 58.7)
- Pathophysiology with a grade of C or above
Admission Deadlines
- Fall Semester Start: May 15
- Spring Semester Start: September 15
- Summer Semester Start: February 15
Application Process
Step 1: Apply for admission to the university (transfer students).
Step 2: Contact your Academic Advisor to determine your eligibility to apply for admission.
Step 3: Complete your ATI TEAS exam.
Step 4: Submit your application for the Traditional BSN Track.
Step 5: Start completing post-admission Health Requirements.
Post Admission Requirements
The following requirements are not part of your application but will need to be complete once you are admitted into the Traditional BSN program.

Pay non-refundable seat deposit of $150.00 by the date indicated in the acceptance letter. Failure to pay the deposit will result in forfeiture of the acceptance. Applicants who accept an offer of admission but later decide not to attend will forfeit seat deposit.

It is strongly encouraged that you gather immunization records and other required documents needed to start nursing school. Failure to upload appropriate documentation within deadlines will delay ability to enroll full-time and participate in clinical experiences. View Health Requirements.

All applicant names will be submitted to the Texas Board of Nursing (BON). The BON shares email address’ with IdentoGO. IdentoGO will send an email with instructions regarding fingerprints and background checks.
The whole process takes at least 4 weeks to complete.
