The University of Texas School of Nursing invests in nursing faculty and doctoral education establishing an innovative, creative environment to stimulate new discovery and to translate science for advancing health and wellness of communities served.
With a focus on health and communities (rural communities, communities of practice, and communities of scholars) and built on a model of strengths, the PhD in Nursing prepares leaders to:

• Design and conduct research that contributes to the advancement of nursing science and health innovations.
• Conduct culturally sensitive research to guide evidence-based practice.
• Incorporate research outcomes to formulate policies pertinent to nursing and global health.
• Disseminate innovative and creative strategies to improve health through nursing research, practice, and education.

Chronic Illness

Faculty research in areas of chronic illness focused on Dementia, Diabetes, Cancer, Hypertension, and COVID19 pandemic impact.

Women’s Health

Women’s health research focuses on pregnancy and childbirth, labor support, violence against women, labor support, and relational boundaries in mothers and babies.

Strategies for Educating Nurses

Faculty research in strategies for educating nurses focused on student retention, predicting success of undergraduate and graduate students, educational simulations, online-learning innovations, effective mentoring and precepting.

Research Funding

The Office of Research, Scholarship, and Sponsored Programs (ORSSP) facilitates, enhances and strengthens faculty and student research and scholarship by providing pre-award and post-award services.  The ORSSP staff assist faculty and staff in achieving their research goals by helping them navigate the increasingly complex and competitive world of external funding sources. They provide expert guidance and support across the funding life cycle including identifying sources of funding, assisting with proposal development, negotiating contracts, setting up and monitoring budgets and expenditures, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and policies.
