Mr. Jay Galeon is always so positive even with criticism. He has impacted me because he’s teaching two levels at the SON all while taking care of family health issues at the moment. He never lets it shows if he’s going through something, and he is so genuine and caring towards his students. He’s the best.

Jay Galeon,

2023-2024 Nursing Faculty Honoree

Throughout the entire semester Ms. Hannah Gean continued to pour into me and the other students. She was constantly encouraging and uplifting and spurred us on to becoming better nurses. You can truly tell she loves what she does both as a nurse and as an instructor! I would not be where I am today without her.

2022-2023 Nursing Faculty Honoree

I lost my brother this summer and Mrs. Elaine Wallace has been there for me every step of the way with my grieving. She understands where I am coming from and has let me feel validated and loved every time I have a hard day.

More about the DAISY Awards at UT Tyler

Q: What does “DAISY” mean?
A: DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem. The DAISY Foundation was formed in January, 2000, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. Touched by the care and compassion of the nurses that took care of him, his family developed recognition programs to honor and celebrate direct care nurses, nursing faculty and nursing students.

Q: What is The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Faculty?
A: The purpose of this program is to provide a national recognition program that academic institutions with nursing programs may use to demonstrate appreciation to nursing faculty for their commitment and inspirational influence on their students. The DAISY Foundation hopes that this program will contribute to a positive work environment and encourage nursing faculty to continue teaching future nurses. We encourage all alumni and current students to vote for a faculty member who has made a difference in your life.

Q: What is The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nursing Students?
A: Modeled after The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, this recognition program is designed to highlight outstanding compassionate care provided to patients and families by pre-licensure Nursing Students when they are working in direct care. Nominations are collected throughout all levels, and students are eligible to receive the award in their graduating semester. We encourage patients, patient families, preceptors, faculty, and other providers who work with our students to nominate a deserving student.
