Dr. Marian Rowe
Dr. Marian Rowe received her BSN from UTMB in Galveston followed by her MSN degree
from TWU in
1976, the same year Dr. Rowe started teaching at UT Tyler. Dr. Rowe completed her
PhD at UT Austin in
1989. Dr. Rowe married her husband, Ralph W. Rowe in 1956 and they had four children:
James, Laurie,
Cindy and Jill.
Dr. Rowe was instrumental in the development of the RN-BSN program, generic BSN and
MSN programs.
She served as Assistant Chairman to the Department of Nursing (1979-1980) and as Interim
Chairman
(1980-1981). She was a charter member of Iota Nu chapter of Sigma Theta Tau and served
her
community in organizations such as American Red Cross, United Way and Parents Anonymous.
She has been instrumental in the organization of the Northeast Texas Alzheimer’s Disease Chapter
of the
Alzheimer’s Association. UT Tyler School of Nursing established the Dr. Marian Rowe
Community Service Award in her honor. This award is presented at each pinning ceremony
to a graduating BSN student who has demonstrated the highest commitment to service
and has logged the most community service hours during their time at UT Tyler. Thank
