Award For Excellence In Community Engagement
 
PURPOSE
 
This award is given to a faculty member whose contributions represent a dedication to embedding the School of Medicine within the communities of East Texas and beyond through communication, responsiveness, and the development of community partnerships.
 
CRITERIA
 
Nominees should exhibit excellence in service to the local, regional, and healthcare community by: 
  • Engaging in community health events, disaster relief, community education through invited workshops, etc.
  • Developing or contributing to programs that have had a significant impact on vulnerable and/or underserved populations, particularly in East Texas.
  • Collaborating on projects with local community partners.
  • Garnering support from community groups/boards.
  • Service to the institution through work in student/trainee interviews, faculty recruitment, and committee work.
  • Service to students such as program development for student support or sponsoring clerkships.
  • Supporting community via public education programs or campaigns, volunteerism, or non-profit organizations. 
 
 
NOMINATIONS
 
Nominations will be accepted by Department Chairs and Division Chiefs via nomination form distributed each January.
Chairs will be expected to attach a copy of the faculty’s CV for review and consideration.
 
 
AWARD
 
Review and recommendations will be made by the Faculty Honors and Awards Committee, with a final decision by the Dean.
