Family Medicine Tyler Residency FAQ

Are you ACGME accredited?

Yes, we are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education as a three-year categorical family medicine training program.

How do I submit my application?

We accept applications through ERAS.  If an application is accepted, the formal invitation to interview will come through Thalamus.

What is the application deadline?

Our deadline for applications is Dec. 1.

Do you accept international medical graduate applications?

International medical graduate applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis by our applications committee.

Will you be offering virtual interviews?

We will offer both virtual and in-person interviews.

Can I select my interview date?

We do offer flexible scheduling through Thalamus where an applicant can select any available dates/slots we have remaining or can request a spot for a specific date via wait-list.

When should I arrive for my interview and is there a pre-interview dinner?

For in-person interviews, there will be a dinner opportunity with residents the evening before. You will be provided with a hotel room the evening before your interview.  The interview day begins at 9:00a.m. (time subject to change).

What if I cannot make it on my interview date or need to change dates?

Please notify our office either by Thalamus, phone, or email as soon as possible if a scheduling change needs to be made. Dates can also be changed through the Thalamus scheduling system.

Will the program allow moonlighting?

We do allow moonlighting opportunities for our PGY2 and PGY3 residents.

How many residents does your program accept each year?

We accept eight positions per year for a full complement of 24 residents.

Where will my rotations be located?

  • UT Tyler Health Science Center Campus
  • UT Health Tyler
  • CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital
  • Various community specialty clinics

Do you offer an employment benefits package?

Yes, in conjunction with UT System benefits.

Is your program affiliated with any fellowships currently?

We are the core program for our primary care sports medicine fellowship.

Do you offer specialty tracks?

Yes: sports medicine, emergency medicine, obesity and metabolic health, and hospice and palliative medicine track.

Do you accept COMLEX in lieu of USMLE Step scores?

Yes, however Step scores are preferred.

Do you accept Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine graduates?

Yes, we accept both MDs and DOs.
