The Honda Laboratory is a part of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the UT Tyler School of Medicine. The Lab is located in Lab C2 in the Biomedical Research Building (BMR) where the lab utilizes various unique research methods for NTM basic science research.
Environmental and clinical isolates of NTM: We have an extensive and growing repository of environmental NTM isolates collected from freshwater biofilms, soil, and dust, streams, and other locations along with respiratory isolates of NTM.
Primary human immune cell models: We apply human airway epithelial cells at the air-liquid interface from normal subjects and patients with NTM pulmonary disease in addition to alveolar macrophage and lung organoid models.
Murine NTM studies: We use the C3HeB/FeJ mouse model to study NTM virulence.
Volcanic and NTM exposures in primary cell models: We culture human lung cells at air-liquid interface and macrophages and expose them to volcanic ash and NTM to study the immune responses to exposures.
