Fabrication Laboratory

Facilities

This 1,650 square foot lab supports faculty and students both at the Tyler campus and at the Houston Engineering Center with projects involving fabrication. 

The laboratory includes the following equipment:

  • Atrump vertical mill and Atrump engine lathe
  • Smithy 10x32 CNC Mill
  • Wilton drill press
  • Table saw, chop saw, horizontal band saw, and contour band saw
  • Grinders, buffers and disk and belt sander
  • Surface grinder
  • Tool sharpening grinder
  • Sheet metal shear and break
  • Cyclone bead blasting system
  • Enerpac hydraulic press
  • Hydraulic tubing and pipe bender
  • One-metric-ton, folding floor crane
  • Parts washer
  • 2 ton powered overhead hoist

A welding cell is housed in the Fabrication Laboratory with the following equipment:

  • Lincoln MIG welder
  • Lincoln Combined TIG and stick welder
  • Plasma cutter
  • Heat treatment furnace
  • Oxyacetylene cutting and welding torch
  • Downdraft welding platen
  • Aluminum tilt pour furnace and crucible
