The University of Texas at Tyler and Houston Engineering Center

The Department of Civil and Construction Engineering and Management at The University of Texas at Tyler offers the Bachelor of Science in construction engineering, preparing students for professional careers and leadership roles in construction and construction-related industries. Construction is the largest industry in the United States with about 7 million employees.

The University of Texas at Tyler also partners with Houston Community College to allow students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering at the UT Tyler Houston Engineering Center, located on the second floor of the HCC Alief-Hayes campus in Houston. Construction engineers lead societal developments through a STEM-oriented approach that emphasizes research, problem-solving and applied learning.

Construction engineers tackle modern infrastructure challenges, including transportation systems, environmental plant operations, pavement design, geotechnical design, structural design and more factors influencing sustainability, longevity and efficiency. Job titles that utilize a construction engineering degree are construction engineer, construction inspector, construction project estimator, engineering project manager, field engineer, LEED manager and project engineer.

UT Tyler construction engineering majors learn about:

  • Learn to solve problems through science and engineering principles
  • Prepare to construct commercial buildings, bridges, highways and
utility systems in a changing world
  • Explore horizontal and vertical construction practices and techniques
  • Grow their leadership, communication and collaboration skills
