The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Literature and Languages offers programs of excellence in English, foreign languages and philosophy, providing a firm grounding in the liberal arts for a wide variety of careers or for graduate studies.
Programs include the bachelor of arts degree in English, bachelor of arts degree in Spanish and master of arts degree in English.
The UT Tyler literature and languages department also offers:
- Minors in English, Spanish, Asian studies, philosophy and religion.
- Foreign language courses including Chinese, French and Spanish.
- Courses leading to teacher certification in English language arts/reading and in Spanish.
The English BA degree prepares you for any career requiring critical reading, orderly and clear thinking and effective writing skills. Graduates of the UT Tyler program work in business, government, education, media and global communications. A bachelor's in English also is the degree most preferred by law schools.
The English MA degree program offers advanced studies in literature, rhetoric, textural interpretation, analytical writing and research in preparation for employment or doctoral studies.
The Spanish BA program includes courses in beginning, intermediate and advanced language instruction; the literature of Spain and Spanish America; and the Hispanic culture. The degree uniquely prepares you for a career in education, government, social work, communications and other fields in an increasingly diverse economic system.
