“We are extremely proud of our students as they embark on one of the most rigorous portions of medical school,” said UT Tyler President Julie V. Philley, MD.

During the clinical clerkship phase, students will work directly with faculty and residents to care for patients. They will spend time working across 58 clinical sites in East Texas in each specialty, including psychiatry, neurology, inpatient family medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, surgery and internal medicine.

President Philley delivered the ceremony’s keynote speech, which was followed by a renewal of the Physician’s Oath, led by Cooley.

“It’s an incredible honor to reach this milestone, and I’m deeply grateful for the unwavering support of the UT Tyler School of Medicine faculty, staff and my family,” said second-year medical student Gaurav Singh of Gregg County. “Working in a hospital setting and engaging directly with patients is an invaluable experience.
