Tuberculosis (TB) Screen Hold Clearance Process

 

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that typically occurs in the lungs. The TB screening is required for international students and scholars who originate from a country that is defined as High Burden for TB by the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) OR have traveled to a country that is defined as High Burden for TB. 

At this time, only the QuantiFERON -- TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-G) and Interferon Gamma Assay (IGRA) blood test are accepted by UT Tyler for TB screen hold clearance purposes. 

 

Notice: While you can complete your TB screening in the U.S. or in a different country, all submitted documents must be in English.

 

How to Remove Your TB Enrollment Hold 

• Fill out page 1 of the TB Screening Form. 
• Page 2 must be filled out by the licensed medical provider separately from your screen test lab report.
  • If your blood test results are positive, your provider will order an additional chest X-ray to rule out actual TB infection (per TB Screening Form instructions, p. 2). 

• Send all lab reports and the UT Tyler TB Screening Form to oip@uttyler.edu. 
  • TB screening results must be from a test taken from within a year of your program start date. 

• Your documents will be reviewed by University Health Clinic.
  • Your hold will be removed once clearance is received from the University Health Clinic.
  • This process can take up to 10 business days. 
  • Students cannot register or attend classes until the hold has been cleared.
