Effort reporting is a process mandated by the federal government to verify that direct
labor charges to, or cost shared on, sponsored projects are accurate, timely, and
reflect the actual level of work performed.
ECRT (Effort Certification and Reporting Technology)
ECRT (Effort Certification and Reporting Technology) is an effort reporting system that supports the requirements of the federal government and The University of Texas System (UT System). ECRT employs various features to ensure that calculations are correct and other conditions are met before certification is possible.
Principal Investigators (PI) on both main campus and Health Science Center campuses must certify effort for everyone participating in externally funded research and programs quarterly using ECRT.
The PI must be able to provide a suitable means of verifying time and effort on a grant. A suitable means of verification can include (but is not limited to) items such as calendars, time sheets or schedules, emails, minutes from meetings, periodic reports, etc. This documentation should be maintained as required by the UT Tyler Records Retention Schedule and the Grant Sponsor.
