College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

UT Tyler currently assesses CLEP examination scores for only those exams listed in the chart below. The UT Tyler Testing Center offers students the opportunity to complete certain CLEP examinations on the UT Tyler campus. Students who have taken a CLEP exam elsewhere that has not been assessed and posted for credit must provide official score reports to UT Tyler to have their examination scores assessed for credit.

Senior-level students who plan to complete CLEP examinations toward their degree during their semester of graduation should be aware that receipt of CLEP results are subject to the same deadlines as outstanding transcripts for credits complete at other institutions. Failure to meet these deadlines will result in denial of graduation, so please review the graduation website thoroughly.

** For students with a score of 70+ on the Biology CLEP exam, the default award will be 6 credit hours of BIOL 1301 and 1302. However, students may instead request to substitute 3 credit hours of either BIOL 1306 or 1307, if those courses better fit their degree plan; this option requires approval of the student's academic advisor.

International Baccalaureate Program (IB)

Students who have completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program will receive at least 24 semester credit hours of lower division credit based on Standard-Level and Higher-Level examinations in which they have earned scores of 4 or higher, in accordance with the Texas Education Code (51.968). Fewer than 24 semester credit hours may be granted if a student received a score of less than 4 on an examination administered as part of the diploma program. In such cases the determination of credit awarded for examinations with scores of 3 or lower will be at the discretion of the relevant college advisor in the college or department offering the student's major.

Students who took IB coursework but have not earned an IB Diploma will receive credit only for Higher-Level examinations in which they have earned scores of 4 or higher.
