Mission

The Department of Computer Science provides students with a strong foundation in the theory, practice, development, and application of computing technologies. Our undergraduate and graduate programs provide the knowledge and skills for students to become successful professionals, leaders and innovators. The department's core values include a balance between teaching and research, a commitment to the extension of knowledge, and outreach to our stakeholders in East Texas and beyond.

The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Tyler offers comprehensive programs to prepare students for work in a wide variety of computing environments.

The department offers the bachelor of science in computer science, bachelor of science in computer information systems,  bachelor of science in information technology, master of science in computer science, and master of science in cybersecurity and data analytics and supports secondary teacher certification in computer science and technology applications.

With a BS degree in computer science from UT Tyler, you will be well prepared to model, simulate and solve computational problems and produce systems to serve the needs of business, industry, government, education and other entities in the professional world.

UT Tyler graduates with a BS degree in computer information systems are equipped to excel as information systems professionals. You will possess the skills, knowledge and experience to analyze business problems and provide reliable, secure computerized solutions.

Students in UT Tyler's computer science MS degree program learn to become more competent and productive in professional computing environments and are well prepared for further graduate study.

The Department of Computer Science is also home to many research labs and centers including the Data Analytics Lab, the Robotics Lab, the Center for Consumer Cybersecurity, the Networking Lab, the Cyber Projects Lab, the Digital Forensics Lab, and the Software Engineering & Data Mining Lab. 

Marketable Skills

The Soules College of Business has also specifically identified marketable skills that are obtained as you get a degree from one of the majors in the college. These skills were developed through input from our industry partners and reflect the skills they want of our graduates. By having these marketable skills, you have an advantage in getting and succeeding in a job upon graduation.
