UT Tyler Accessibility and Disability Resources
U.T. Offices/Staff Dedicated to Helping Persons with Disabilities
- Institutional Compliance Office - Responsible for compiling Quarterly Reports to U. T. System; performing departmental inspections, performing monitoring plan inspections; maintaining the Institutional Compliance Manual and the Compliance and Monitoring Plan Manual; collecting annual Control Self Assessments; maintaining the Compliance Database; maintaining the Compliance website; and coordinating Compliance training.
- Disability Support Services - Provides students equal access to all educational, social and recreational programs through the coordination of services and reasonable accommodations, consultation, and advocacy.
- UT Tyler Resources for Persons with Disabilities - Located in the Disability Services Office.
- Environmental Health and Safety -Comply with applicable EH&S laws and regulations;Eliminate or reduce its exposure to accidental and financial loss; and protect against accidents that could cause injury to faculty, staff, students and visitors, or impede its ability to provide a safe and quality educational experience.

Laws and Guidelines
May 1999 - the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), an organization that sets standards for the Web, approved recommendations for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0.
June 2001- the US Government's Section 508 standards become effective for all federal agencies and entities operating federal contracts.
Section 508 requires that Federal agencies' electronic and information technology
is accessible to people with disabilities.
June 2002 - the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) published Section S206.2 on Accessibility and Usability of Institutions of Higher Education
Web Sites
July 2002 - the University of Texas at Austin published a Web Accessibility Policy to establish a minimum accessibility standard for web pages.
September 2005 - Texas House Bill 2819 requires state agencies to develop, procure, maintain and use electronic and information technology that is accessible to people with disabilities.
December 2008 - Web Content Accessibility Guideline 2.0 is finalized.
