Message from the Dean
Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy
The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree offers an opportunity to enter a dynamic, trusted and rewarding profession. The pharmacy field offers more than 100 career and practice pathways, with emerging areas of practice and research continually reshaping the profession. As medication experts, pharmacists utilize critical thinking, clinical judgment, communication and teamwork. Pharmacy education is designed to cultivate these competencies, ensuring that graduates are not only practice-ready but also team-ready pharmacists.
At the Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler, we are dedicated to shaping future pharmacists who provide exceptional and compassionate care to those they serve while advocating for the health and wellness of their communities. Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to student success, advancing pharmacy practice and fostering excellence in research.
The Fisch College of Pharmacy welcomed its inaugural class in 2015 under the leadership of our founding dean, Dr. Lane Brunner. Since the establishment of our Doctor of Pharmacy program, our college has offered students a contemporary education in an engaging, collaborative environment that emphasizes interprofessional education and teamwork.
Our distinguished faculty, comprised of both experienced pharmacists and accomplished scientists, are dedicated to advancing patient care and conducting cutting-edge research. Clinical faculty specialize in areas such as ambulatory care, critical care, internal medicine, community care and diabetes, while our pharmaceutical science and health outcomes faculty contribute to research that advances drug development, drug delivery, cancer, pain, cardiology, health economics and outcomes, and cognitive and neurodegenerative disorders.
Our program provides unique opportunities for students to engage in early experiential education, interprofessional coursework, team-based education, leadership and research. Through partnerships with over 400 practice sites and 1,000 preceptors, we provide more than 2,000 hours of practice-based experiential education, beginning in the first semester of the program. With a network of over 400 alumni, our graduates go on to succeed in residencies, fellowships and clinical practice in an array of settings. Our students are well-prepared for post-graduate success, as evidenced by our board pass rates and residency match rates of 83% in 2024, 100% in 2023 and 92% in 2022.
If you are a prospective student, I invite you to explore the opportunities at the Fisch College of Pharmacy. I encourage you to visit our campus and contact us to learn more about our PharmD program and how we are shaping the next generation of pharmacists.
