Nearly 20 computer, electrical and mechanical engineering students at The University of Texas at Tyler recently participated in a site visit at Komatsu Mining in Longview.

The UT Tyler students toured the facility learning about the various manufacturing processes of the global company, which develops and supplies technologies, equipment and services for the construction, mining, forklift, industrial and forestry markets. While there, the students also participated in a question-and-answer session.

“We are deeply grateful to Komatsu for providing this invaluable opportunity for our students,” said Margot Purdy, career success coach for the UT Tyler College of Engineering. “The students posed insightful questions, and the Komatsu engineers were exceptionally accommodating, ensuring a memorable and educational experience.”

The trip was coordinated by the university’s career success office in collaboration with the college. “Site visits like these are incredibly valuable, offering students a firsthand look at potential career paths and real-world applications of their classroom learning,” Purdy added.
