Students at The University of Texas at Tyler earned accolades at the 2024 Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering national conference.
“I am proud of the students’ accomplishments. They put in long hours, and I really appreciate how dedicated they were to the competitions,” said Dr. Heshium Lawrence, UT Tyler Soules College of Business interim associate dean and ATMAE student chapter faculty adviser. “They also learned how to work in a team environment and apply their skills.”
UT Tyler team members Phillip Matthews of Kilgore and Philip Coyle of Lewisville placed third in the ATMAE video competition, where teams were to “create a compelling video that tells powerful stories of employer satisfaction and student success,” according to ATMAE guidelines.
UT Tyler robotics team members with their major are:
CHANDLER – Kacey Flores, computer science.
DALLAS – Paul Kavul, business administration.
KILGORE – Phillip Matthews, industrial technology.
LEWISVILLE – Philip Coyle, industrial technology.
LINDEN – Hunter Crenshaw, industrial technology.
LONGVIEW – Kaleb Saxon, industrial management.
MARSHALL – Jaylon McFarland, mechanical engineering.
ROCKWALL – Austin Taylor, industrial technology.
Matthews also reached the semifinals of this year’s IQ Challenge, playing against 59 other competitors. The challenge is a Jeopardy!-style game in which participants answer questions in various categories such as safety, electronics, quality and grab bag. “The competition is designed to test the students’ knowledge that they have gained in their respective programs and classes, hence, the numerous choices of categories,” Lawerence added.
ATMAE is a highly regarded association with nearly 1,000 members from academia, government and industry.
