UT Tyler Dean Appointed to Academic Advisory Council for National Accrediting Body

KypurosDr. Javier Kypuros, dean of The University of Texas at Tyler College of Engineering, was appointed vice chair of the ABET Academic Advisory Council serving through Oct. 31, 2025. With this appointment, he will then serve as chair from Nov. 1, 2025, through Oct. 31, 2027.

The council provides a formal means for the academic community to share its perspective, give advice and communicate with ABET leadership.

“We congratulate Dean Kypuros on this appointment,” said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, UT Tyler provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. “I am confident he will serve the council extremely well with his talents and technical knowledge.”

Kypuros joined the College of Engineering in 2017. He holds the UT Tyler Ronald D. Brazzel Endowed Professorship of Engineering and leads a comprehensive college with programs in Tyler and Houston. Additionally, he received the 2014 UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award, which recognizes outstanding teaching at the undergraduate level. His research has garnered grants in the millions from both industry and federal sources.

He holds doctoral and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from UT Austin and a bachelor’s
degree in mechanical engineering from Princeton University.
