The University of Texas at Tyler will offer a new Bachelor of Science in construction engineering for students at the Houston Engineering Center beginning this fall.
Housed within the College of Engineering, the four-year program will be available
in person at the
HEC, located on the Houston Community College Alief-Hayes campus at 2811 Hayes Road
in
Houston.
“We are pleased to bring the bachelor’s degree in construction engineering to our
Houston
Engineering Center,” said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, UT Tyler provost and executive vice president
for
academic affairs. “This offering enhances our engineering program portfolio, and it
also will help
recruit more Houston area students ready to join the growing workforce in the region
and state.”
UT Tyler students enrolled in the program will gain a comprehensive education in both
the
theoretical and practical aspects of construction engineering. The curriculum covers
key areas such
as project management, construction materials and methods, structural analysis, transportation
and geotechnical engineering. Students will also receive hands-on training through
lab work and
internships, preparing them for real-world challenges in the construction industry.
“Our graduates will be prepared to tackle the complex challenges of the construction
industry,
ensuring they can lead projects to success from start to finish,” said Dr. Mena Souliman,
UT Tyler
professor and Department of Civil Engineering chair. “Houston, being a hub of construction
and
development, offers immense opportunities for our graduates to excel and contribute
to the city’s
growth.”
Other programs at the HEC include construction management, computer engineering, as
well as
civil, electrical and mechanical engineering.
UT Tyler opened the Houston Engineering Center in fall 2013 to provide better access
to engineering education for students in and around the greater Houston area. For
