UT Tyler School of Medicine Unanimously Voted to Become TARCC Member

The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine was unanimously voted to become a Texas Alzheimer’s Research and Care Consortium member by the Texas Council on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders.
Texas ranks second nationally in number of Alzheimer’s deaths by population. Joining TARCC will expand the School of Medicine’s health care initiatives throughout East Texas for dementia and other associated conditions.
“As we become a member of TARCC, our focus remains on patient care and the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders throughout East Texas,” said Dr. Julie V. Philley, executive vice president for health affairs, vice provost and the incoming sixth president of UT Tyler. “We aim to enhance early detection, treatment and support services for individuals and families affected by these neurodegenerative disorders.”
TARCC is a collaborative Alzheimer’s research effort, funded by the State of Texas, between 11 leading medical research institutions. Its mission is to enable cutting edge research in Alzheimer’s Disease, promote an effective model of care for caregivers and patients and establish partnerships among Texas medical research institutions.
“Our participation in this consortium will foster collaboration, innovation and progress in the field of Alzheimer’s research and care,” said Dr. Brigham C. Willis, School of Medicine founding dean.
With a mission to improve educational and health care outcomes for East Texas and beyond, UT Tyler offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate programs to nearly 10,000 students.
