April 2, 2024 | Elizabeth Wingfield

The University of Texas at Tyler School of Health Professions is partnering with NET Health, UT Health East Texas and TJC to host events during National Public Health Week, April 1- 7. These events are free, open to the community and will feature activities such as healthy cooking demonstrations and yoga.

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of public health needs in East Texas. According to the 2021 health status report of Northeast Texas, if East Texas were its own state, it would rank 47th to 51st in almost every major health outcome.

“National Public Health Week serves as a critical reminder of the health disparities present in our communities,” said Dr. Theresa Byrd, School of Health Professions founding dean. “Through collaborative efforts with our partners, UT Tyler's School of Health Professions is committed to addressing these challenges head-on and promoting a culture of wellness in East Texas and beyond.”
