Athens Resident Earns Top Awards at Collegiate Singing Competition

Daniel Holmes of Athens, a music composition major at The University of Texas at Tyler, earned first place in both the musical theater and classical divisions in the adult category during the 2024 National Association of Teachers of Singing-DFW Chapter Conference.

He was also named a finalist for the Jennifer Glidden Singer of the Year honor, which recognizes the overall best singer from the entire NATS-DFW chapter competition.

“We are so proud of Daniel and congratulate him for being recognized at this year’s NATS conference,” said Dr. Sarah Roberts, interim director of the UT Tyler School of Performing Arts. “We are excited for his future as he moves through his degree at UT Tyler.”

Holmes is a student of Dr. Sooah Park, associate professor of music. He will graduate with a UT Tyler Bachelor of Music in composition in spring 2026.
