Program is first of its kind in state to be offered online

The University of Texas at Tyler offers a new Master of Special Education specialization track in emotional and behavioral disorders, specifically designed for full-time K-12 teachers. Program registration is now open, and the first cohort will begin in May.

The two-year, 36-credit hour program is the first of its kind in Texas to be offered 100% online.

“We are excited to offer this new Master of Special Education track for K-12 teachers in our region and beyond,” said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. “This program allows us to support our K-12 partners and their students."

With this degree, graduates can become a behavior specialist or behavioral/instructional coach at
the district level and teach in special/general education classrooms or in an alternative educational
facility. They can also work in residential facilities as well as mental health facilities/group homes
and juvenile justice facilities.
