Katy Resident to Earn UT Tyler Graduate Degree, Pursue Doctorate at Rice University

Stephan Joseph of Katy, a biology graduate student at The University of Texas at Tyler, will begin doctoral studies at Rice University this fall. There, he will study in the virology, bacterial toxicology and bioelectronics research labs.
“I want to congratulate Stephan on his educational achievements. He joins the many biology majors who go on to do great things and represent UT Tyler extremely well,” said Dr. Neil Gray, dean of the UT Tyler College of Arts and Sciences.
Joseph will graduate with a UT Tyler Master of Science in biology later this month. He said UT Tyler prepared him for career success and the next phase of his educational journey, noting that the research opportunities and caring and committed faculty made an impact.
“UT Tyler equipped me with the experience that will be essential in pursuing a PhD degree,” said Joseph. “My presentation skills were greatly improved during my time at UT Tyler, and I also obtained a much deeper understanding of my field and an ability to process research papers, thanks to great professors.”
He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology with a specialization in biotechnology from the University of Florida. After obtaining his doctorate, he plans to work as an industry researcher in the biological sciences.
